Welcome to our web site. Emergency Pest Control, Inc. was founded in 1987 by Rusty and Rhonda Taylor. We hope that this web site will help you with information regarding pest control and how we may be able to help you.
At the present time we service the following areas: Williamsburg, James City County, Toano, York County, parts of Newport News, and Gloucester County
This year Emergency Pest Control, Inc. will celebrate 39 Years in business. Started by Rusty and Rhonda Taylor with a dream of becoming a business to our customers who like seeing the same folks coming to their house on a regular basis. While Rhonda is a teacher with the Gloucester County Public Schools she continues to hold her pesticide certification and helps with the office and occasionally in the field if help is needed. Rusty worked in the pest control service for several years before they started this business. Our son-in-law, Rob Donnelly, began working with us in 2019, after working with another local pest control company in the area. Rob has his pesticide certification and both he and Rusty have their Wood Destroying Insect Inspection certification, a ongoing certification about performing inspection needed for Real Estate Closings.
Revised WDIO form for real estate closings
Attention Real Estate Agents and Home Sellers. There is a revised form which must be used for real estate closing inspections effective January 1, 2020. The NPMA-33 form which is used for reporting on wood destroying insects for a real estate closing has been revised. There are several changes on the form which are more clerical in nature. The main change is the treatment recommendation section regarding termites. The bottom line is that if evidence of previous termites are observed and the house is not under a current termite service warranty a company "may" recommend it be treated. This was a horrible wording and some entomologists and legal experts say legally a company now "should" recommend a treatment to prevent a legal issue. Hopefully the committee which revised this report will see this issue and create a new revised form, however, this is something that could take time.

Termite Information
The type of termite that we have in our area is called a subterranean termite, specifically the Eastern Subterranean Termite. These termites mostly live in colonies underground. The worker termites make tunnels in the ground to find their food which is cellulose found in untreated dead wood. They can build mud tunnels up non-wood material to reach wood. Once inside the workers tunnel through the wood with the grain and eat the cellulose out of the wood. On their way back to the next the cellulose is converted to starch which they will feed the rest of the colony. This will go on twenty four hours and day throughout the year. While they are active all year long they will avoid some of the colder areas during the winter and look for food further in the soil. In the Spring, the colony will send out swarmers (winged reproductives) which are termites with wings. They fly out and try to get away from the colony, drop their wings, pair off, bury down in the ground and start new colonies. Small two segment bodies, they will drop their wings making them a little easier to distinguish from ants. If you see something like this be sure to have a professional check it out. Some varieties of ants will also send swarmers out and can be confusing.
Email Service for Billing and Reports
We are now offering a new faster service for getting you reports and invoices. For our regular customers we can now send you your reports and invoices through email. We can also notify you when it is time for your next service through email. If you wish to receive your notifications and reports/invoices this way simply let us know and give us your email address.
We can also send real estate closing reports and invoices through email as well. Simply let us know the attorney or title company name, email address and contact person and we can scan and email the report once it has been prepared. It is our understanding that for closings there is no need for an original document to be delivered to the attorney or title company.
We hope that this new service will help save time and money as postage costs and gas prices have continued to rise. You can contact us through the "Contact Us" page to give us your email information or send us an email to: emergencypest@aol.com .
